The name of the website was alluring enough to get me to investigate and when I found out what ‘delicious’ was all about I have to admit that it’s truly a delight. Adding all those interesting websites and articles to ‘Favourites’ can become muddled and time-consuming, especially when you have to go through the entire list to find what you are looking for.
‘Delicious’ is a website that organizes all your favourite websites according to ‘tags’ or ‘keywords.’ In this way finding relevant information becomes easier. It’s almost like an encyclopedia because the tags are arranged in alphabetical order. An interesting feature of this website is its social networking capacity. This means that you will have access to even more information from other friends who have tagged websites on the ‘delicious’ website.
I have met so many interesting and intelligent people on this course that I can’t wait to form a knowledge bank with them on ‘delicious.’ Moreover, in order to become competent reading specialists, it is important to share our knowledge by keeping up to date with teaching strategies and the use of technology in enhancing teaching and learning. Distance can no longer separate us when we have websites like ‘Delicious.’
“DELICIOUS,” MY DEPENDABLE DIGITAL ORGANIZER By Abigale Singh
ReplyDeleteHi Denise! I sure agree with you. I have often found arranging items in “favorites’ to be great but too time consuming for me. Like you, when I met with “delicious,” it was love at first sight.
I strongly believe that good organizational skills impacts greatly on a person’s success. Therefore, I can definitely see myself as a dedicated “delicious” diva. Our portfolio as educators and future reading specialists demands that we have the information at our fingertips. This allows us to function competently.
Let’s face it! The best of us forget the exact names for websites so tags make it so…….. easy to sift through the list. And… when you’re always researching stuff to keep up to date, you always find stuff to bookmark… so the list gets longer and longer and longer…... Tags therefore make the job of finding stuff easier and faster.
Indeed, I think that since reading specialists are relatively new to our education system in Trinidad & Tobago, building a strong network is essential to our efficiency. So why don’t we all take this opportunity to enjoy the luxurious capabilities of “delicious” in achieving our goal?
Oh, I also wanted to add that during the course of this programme many have complained about computer systems “crashing.” When this happens, in addition to losing so much important documents which we meant to save back-ups for but didn’t, we also lose all our treasured sites which we bookmarked in “favorites.”
So guess what? “Delicious” is so dependable that it never goes away. Even if your computer system crashes, all websites saved using “delicious” remains there - IMMOVABLE - unless of course you want to change it. So guys and gals, save yourself the stress! Do it the “delicious” way and put smile on your face for life!
Hi Abigale,
ReplyDeleteYes, 'Delicious' is a name that speaks for itself. I have experienced exactly what you described during a computer crash that is, losing all my websites which were stored in 'Favourites.' So I am happy to learn about 'Delicious' to save myself from the headache of rebuilding my website bank. My only concern though is that the 'tags' do not become overwhelming as well. What do you think about this?
